Kindness

New You Kindness tokens-image003

I was in a local drug store the other day and spotted little pouches with tokens in them called Kindness Tokens.  The face says “Kindness Token” with a corresponding symbol.  The reverse says “I give you this token for your kindness to me.  Now give it away, and you will see, how one act of kindness can change the world.”  Each pouch contains three tokens.  So, I bought a pouch and put the tokens in my pocket.  I gave the first coin to a gentleman at a local McDonald’s.  He was wearing a Vietnam Veterans hat.  I handed him a coin, and thanked him for his kindness in serving our country.  He was genuinely astonished, and sat and looked at the coin.  After a while he came over and asked me where I got the coin.  So, I told him the story about how I discovered the coins.  The next coin I gave to a woman at a meeting I attend.  She hugged me and thanked me.  The last coin I gave to my son.  I got so much enjoyment from spontaneously sharing these coins that I went back to the store and bought two more pouches.  These coins will also go in my pocket to be given out.  I did a little research online and found them.  These are called “Catherine’s Tokens in Kindness”.  They are manufactured by Gloria Duchin, Inc.  (https://www.gloriaduchin.com/kindness-tokens/)

Then, I kid you not, when I got home that day, there was a magazine in my mailbox titled, “Preemptive Love”.  It is published by the Preemptive Love Coalition (https://preemptivelove.org/).  The podcast, book and movement is called “Love Anyway”.  This group gives stories, perspectives and tips to love anyway.  Reading their magazine and listening to their podcast was a very eye-opening experience.  It is difficult to love your enemies, to be kind to those who have wronged you.  I know it is what we are called to do, but I have to admit that is not my first inclination.  These people reach out in love to our enemies to show love and charity.  They literally gave a drink of water to one of these in Jesus’ name.  I remembered ordering soap from Preemptive Love this time last year in order to provide support for refugees.  And we have so many refugees all over the world.

And then there is Cuddle and Kind.  Cuddle and Kind was founded by the Woodgate family in order that all children should have enough to eat.  They sell handcrafted dolls made by woman artisans in Peru.  The sale of every doll provides enough money to feed 10 meals for children in need.  The woman receive a sustainable, fair trade income so they can provide for their families.  Together Cuddle and Kind has provided 7,461,144 meals to children in need all over the world.  According to their statistics, 3.1 million children die of malnutrition each year, which is the equivalent of one child every 10 seconds.  That is a very painful statistic to face.  Cuddle and Kind partners with several humanitarian agencies to distribute the meals funded by the sale of their dolls.  They partner with the World Food Program USA, Children’s Hunger Fund, We Free the Children, and Breakfast Club of Canada.  Every child needs a “lovey”.  This lovey helps spread love to children everywhere.

Till the next time,

Cindy

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world.  All things break.  All things can be mended.  Not with time, as they say, but with intention.  So go.  Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally.  The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is in you.”                                                                                                       L.
