My son and I had a very good day yesterday. First we went to the bookstore, our favorite place in the world. Because of covid, we had avoided going to public business. We picked out books for his nieces, and were lucky enough to find types that we thought they would enjoy. Then we stopped at Starbucks on the way home for some liquid refreshment. Matt got an iced coffee and I got an Arnold Palmer (half iced tea, half lemonade). While I was checking out, I saw some granola-type bars that said “This Saves Lives” (https://thissaveslives.com/). Hold the phone! Anytime I can save a life or make someone’s life better, I’m in. These tasty snack bars come in various flavors, are all natural and gluten free, and every bar purchased provides a package of nutritious food to a starving child. The food is called Plumpy Nut. It provides complete nourishment. “This Saves Lives” bars taste great and come in a variety of flavors. Knowing that they help children all over the world makes them taste even better. The need is real. 3.1 million children die each year from hunger-related causes. That’s more than 8,000 children a day. Thanks to the sale of these bars, 180,600 lives have been saved.
As I was paying for my purchase, I remembered that I had a Kindness Token (https://www.gloriaduchin.com/kindness-tokens/) in my pocket. So I gave it to the cashier for her kindness to me. Hopefully she will pass it on to someone else for their kindness, and that is how we will begin to spread kindness throughout the world.
And today our good day got even better. My brother, his wife, along with me and my husband drove to Altoona to visit our aunts and uncles. We had a wonderful time, catching up after almost a year of shut down. This is one of those memories that I will stay with me for a long time.
Time is precious. Let’s get together with those we love while we can.
